I got into wrestling when I was 11, and refused to believe wrestling wasn't legit until I was 14. Sure, I pretty much knew it when I was 13, but I kept holding out hope. It wasn't until 8th grade when a guy brought in what I can only assume was a copy of the WON. I read that Macho only agreed to be in the 6 man tag at Starrcade if he got the pin. I remember right then having to admit to myself it wasn't legit.

Honestly, no clue. I do remember thinking it was real... then believing it was staged... then convincing myself that no, it was real, before finally coming to terms with it at around 12 or 13.
Back when I thought it was legit, I couldn't understand why anyone would agree to fight the Undertaker. WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THAT? HE ALWAYS WINS! AND HE PUTS YOU IN BODY BAG! HE'S PROBABLY GOING TO BURY YOU AND IT'S TOUGH TO BREATH IN THERE!

My mom was always nice, and never busted my chops, but she'd give me shit in a passive aggressive way, like...
If the nWo isn't working for WCW, how are they getting paid?
And I'd respond with "Mom! Duh! Why do you think Billionaire Ted is there?! He's funding the nWo!"
My argument was always "it can't be fake. You can't fake the Razor's Edge". And even though I thought it was all real, I still knew that there was no way Doink or someone to that effect would win the Rumble.

Plus, if the NWO really is a separate organization, then why does WCW not just bring in the cops? You would think if a gang of people showed up at any other place of employment and started attacking people, the police would be called.
One of the things that tipped me off was wrestlers like Duke the Dumpster Drose. I couldn't buy the fact that someone could be a garbage man by day, and loves his job so much that he wears his uniform while moonlighting as a professional wrestler that tours the country.

My Dad blew it for me right out the gate.
"That's FAKE!"
But eventually he saw enough of it through me that he was all "It may be fake, but those guys are great athletes!"
