I've always hated Martian Manhunter, yet he's always treated like a god by the writers. IMO he only barely edges out Hawkman as suckiest guy in Justice League.

If we're talking disliked, then I have to include just about every Superman villain. With the exceptions to Luthor & Doomsday, the rest were terrible. I mean, there's the one guy who the only way to beat is to get him to say his name backwards. How stupid.
I couldn't think of "over-rated" really. Because even though I'm a comic book guy in a sense, I only know the major stuff, and nothing to deep. Hell, I couldn't name you the Justice League guys except for Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Green Lantern, and I know there's like 20 more.

Most Overrated character?
Spider-woman.
Just because Bendis has a hard on for her doesnt mean she is an A-lister.
Fucking terrible.

How does Spider-Woman even get her powers?
I hate the whole "well, this character is great as a male, fuck coming up with something original, let's just make a female version"
EVERY SINGLE popular comic book character in history has a female counterpart.

Yep. I don't know if there is an actual term for it, but I HATE it. It waters down the uniqueness of a good character. I think part of the reason Superman sales struggle is that you have Superboy and Supergirl and so what's so special about him.
Batgirl same thing. They even do it with villains, Harley Quinn is female joker, though she is handled better than most of the others, especially in the Arkham video games.
I agree with Fuj on Spider-Woman. Never was a big deal but Bendis is giving her the HHH god push.

What's worse is that those choices seem to diminish chances of unique, legit heroic female characters.

Agreed. The biggest victim of this is Barbara Gordon. Oracle was a GREAT character. Good as a female character and a disabled character. But screw that, DC wanted Batgirl again.
