What all do we do for work here? Satisfied with it? Do you have a career, or is it just a job? No one's really ever happy with their salary, but do you feel you're paid at least somewhat fairly?

Good question, really...
I dropped out at 15 to become a rapper. That's the honest to God truth. Well, it was that, and because I wasn't challenged at all. So, I worked at my craft, and I became one hell of a musician. I started this hip-hop/acoustic/folksy type brand of music, and it started taking off. But then I got a taste of the industry, and realized it wasn't what I wanted anymore. So, I started writing, because that's another passion of mine. That's what I do now. I'm a writer. I don't make much, but I make some.
At one point I was working at Hollywood Video with a great crew, and I loved it. I love movies, and love talking about them, so it was great. If I couldn't be a writer, than I'd be more than content working at an independent video store. Of course, that's no longer.
I'd also like to compete in body-building/weight lifting. But that'll end up more as a hobby, because I need to focus on one thing until I can actually make a solid living.
How about you, Cliffe?

My job life is a George Costanza style train wreck. I spend 5 years temping at a local University to try and get a full time job there (tons of benefits, decent pay) and basically got promised jobs a number of times that never panned out.
Gave up on that to start a Web Design business with a friend (his idea) who then promptly took a job in Jacksonville 3 months in because his wife's family lives there and she wouldn't stop bitching.
Started a business with my cousin and it was going well until one of his friends wanted in on it and started robbing us blind. My cousin sided with him when I discovered it in the accounts, so I sold off my half to avoid a total family feud (they later went bankrupt which was somewhat satisfying).
I managed a real estate property and fixed over 100,000 in accounting errors, got it running smoothly and then quit when my hours were cut from 40 hours a week to 20 because "there was nothing for me to do"
So what do I do? I still do the Web Design but on a part time scale. I have a part-time job for an environmental firm, and I sell antiques.
Oh and I do some writing but haven't had anything published other that some stuff on 411mania, which doesn't count.

Geez, Scotty. When do you start at Play Now? That's quite the history, man.
And hey, I'd count writing for 411. I've auditioned to write for those cocksuckers SEVEN TIMES and never so much as a "no thank you". I hate that about people, whether it's about a job, or this, or what have you. My favorite was when they wanted a Sons of Anarchy recapper so I tried out, and then did recaps for 3 weeks in case they wanted to use my stuff. They of course went with nothing, never had a recapper, and never said a word to me.
I think some one there has a beef with me or something...

Oh yeah, I can't tell you how many job interviews I've had where I got NOTHING. No callback, no form letter, no email. It is BS, but that's the way things work now.
The 411 guys were cool with me. The only gripe I got was that my articles were getting too short. I got to review some free DVD's but it was really hard to get anything good because the top guys got first pic. I think the best stuff I got was Disney's Robin Hood and Bridge to Terabethia.

Right now I work in IT. I have an AA and a BA in IT.
I started working in IT in 2006 and got progressively more bored with it.
I had an interest in community service and volunteered for a Presidential campaign in 2008 and ended up being the state coordinator for that candidate. I really loved that and got a lot out of it so I decided I wanted to change careers and do that for a living so I went back to school to get a MA in Public Policy and in 2010 I went to work as a regional field director for a very well known Senate campaign. We lost by less than 2% and I was unemployed.
I job searched for like 8 months with more politics being the job type of choice but those are very hard to come by so I also looked for more IT jobs. I worked for a lot of crappy different things until I found a decent paying but incredibly stressful IT job about a year ago but kept it until I got my current cushy, albeit boring, IT job.
I still want to work in politics but I am married now and political campaigns A) Don't pay very well B ) Require you to move around and work an ungodly amount of hours and C) Tend to fire you after the election even if you win so they are not very stable so I mostly sat this cycle out but I am trying to start my own political action committee so I will see how that goes.
You guys have a far more interesting employment history than do I...

I'd still like to write for 411, simply to put it on my resume. I mean, not to toot my own horn, but my Man Movie Encyclopedia articles are a lot better than most of their stuff. The Hollywood 5&1 article is good, as well as the Hush Hush one. The rest? They're all super generic, and just about anyone can do'em. I think the way you get into it is knowing someone. I'm in pretty good with JD Dunn, so perhaps I'll press him.
Geez, Parallax, you have a ton of college experience. Now, IT, what is that exactly?

I don't even go to 411 ever since I got a virus off there. I liked some of their columns, but the site started to turn into TMZ lite with a bunch of excuses to post chic pics to get hits.
The cool thing about it was participating in the roundtables. Those were fun. SK should consider starting a rival to 411 and Inside Pulse. He's probably the most well known wrestling writer online outside of Meltzer and Alvarez.

Man, I can't tell you the amount of times I've talked to Scott and tried to get him to beef up BoD, and do things like that. Hell, I was SHOCKED when he agreed to do the Top 5 of 2012. For some reason, he just doesn't care about doing much outside of the traditional reviews. I told him I'd do all the work, maintain it, and do whatever he needed me to, he just isn't interested for some reason. He could too. BoD could be the biggest pro-wrestling site on the internet.
Actually, now that I have the writers emails, I should set up roundtables.
And yeah, much agreed about what 411mania has become. I suppose it's a lot easier to earn money from ad revenue from articles where you post some fame whore's twitter pics than it is to actually do real, creative articles.

I won't be too hard on Scott. He's married and has a kid and I'm sure wrestling is not at the top of his life list.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. He's been at this 15 years, and I'm sure he's doing just fine. I don't fault him for it, as he's pretty much said I can give it a go and do what I'd like.
