Wrestling has taken characters from movies a lot (Crow Sting, Joker Sting, Razor Ramon, Waylon Mercy, Doink), but there are a lot of storylines that I think would work.
The biggest to me would be the Rocky series. You have five movies to work from (Rocky 5 doesn't exist is this dojo).
Rocky I - Take a dominant champ and have him go through everyone and just gives a nobody a shot. I think Punk would be a good choice, but a champion Rock would be perfect for the Apollo role. For the Rocky role, you'd need someone the fans like, who has never done anything, but who people would believe might could pull off an upset. I give you Zack Ryder.
So Rock wins the belt and let's just say he decides to give Ryder a shot the next time they are in New Jersey. He doesn't take it seriously, just does it to be nice. Ryder is super excited, but then you show guys like Ziggler making fun of him. We don't hear from Zack until the Raw in NJ. When he comes out he is dead serious. No WWWYKI, no spiked hair, no shades. Rock shakes his hand and the start off, Rock has some friendly exchanges, some chain wrestling and out of nowhere ROUGH RYDER. Zack dives for the pin but Rock kicks out at the last possible second. Suddenly it is on, Rock isn't laughing anymore. They go back and forth for 30 minutes and get the time limit draw.
Rocky II - Rock gives Zack props but becomes more and more bothered by how close it was, so he offers Zack a rematch, but Zack got hurt in the match and doesn't want it (maybe even hook him up with one of the divas who doesn't want to see him get hurt). But Rock won't let it go so he unleashes a classic heel Rock promo on Ryder. Finally Ryder goes for the shot and wins the belt.
Rocky III - Zack goes through some successful defences against guys like Santino. But some new badass starts rising to the top (or you could turn Ryback heel). Ryder doesn't back down and says he'll fight him, but HHH comes out and says the WWE makes the matches and gives some bullcrap reason. Ryback keeps harrassing Ryder and Zack demands HHH make the match to which HHH admits that the office has been protecting Zack easy title fights because the WWE Universe loves him, but Ryback would murder him. Zack insists and gets destroyed and loses the belt. Build to a rematch wher Ryder overcomes the odds and wins the belt back.
