I always liked Marvel's What If series. I got this idea on the boards on a post about Bret.
So Bret never gets the massive concussion and I dare say doesn't have the stroke.
What if?

If Bret doesn't get hurt...I don't know, it's really tough to say. Obviously he'd stick with WCW, and they'd have really tried to push the nWo thing.
He'd probably have started with TNA, I imagine. And although I'd like to think he'd have had a fantastic retirement match at WM at one point, I don't know if he would have buried the hatchet. I think the stroke and what have you caused him to think about things.

I think his WCW run would have still been a trainwreck. WCW dies, but Bret loved wrestling so much that I agree, I could see a TNA run. Bret also got along well with Jarrett.
I might could even see an appearance in ROH in the 2003-2005 era.
He would've eventually made his way back to WWE though. and Vince would've probably gone after a healthy Bret harder.

I honestly don't think Bret would have done that much more wrestling even if Goldberg didn't hurt him with that crap mule kick. When he got to WCW you could see his passion for the business waning more and more as the company continued to misuse him and not know what to do with him (big surprise). I did enjoy the little nWo reboot with him as the leader though, that was fun even though it was obviously an attempt to milk the nWo name dry. After Owen died I think most if not all of his passion for wrestling went with it. I'm not saying he wouldn't have showed up in TNA,ROH or even WWE to have a match here or there but after the WCW sale I just don't see him continuing as a full time guy as he was getting old and as I said his passion for wrestling was all but gone.
I could see him though if that injury and the stroke didn't happen opening a training school of sorts in the same vein as his father did. I still think he could do that, he might not be able to be a full hands on teacher like a Lance Storm but he has tons of knowledge he could be passing onto another generation.

Yeah, he'd make a ton of money off a new Dungeon.
