UCLADavid's talk about Vegas got me reflecting on my trip when I was 16, and curious if anyone else has been.
I was 16 at the time, and had a pretty good time, but could have obviously had more if I'd been older.
I'm from Washington, so 100 degree days are like death to me.
We went to Vegas in August.
I stepped off that plane and felt like I'd been punched in the face, as 116 degrees of scorching heat rolled over me. I couldn't believe that a place could be so goddamn hot. But it was true. Here I was.
My dad, who I went with, thought it'd be a good idea for us to walk from our hotel to The Rio, which he said looked to be about a quarter mile away. It wasn't. It was 2 miles. First thing I noticed was half empty beer bottles were all over the place. The only thing more constant than that were the mexicans handing out fliers for hookers.
I found it odd that none of the casinos had clocks. Anywhere.
I dig roller coasters, and since I was 16 that was really the only big thing we could do. I hit up Circus Circus, New York New York [which was the first time I'd ever swore in front of my dad], and the speedway one, which shoots you out at 60mph, and when the track ends you do the whole ride backwards.
I didn't have the balls to do the stratosphere rollercoaster, because our taxi cab driver told me that a person had died up there. That's about 2 more deaths than my limit to ride something like that.
Being 29 now, I'd like to go back and really do it up. Especially so I can try and find shooting locations for Casino.
