How say you guys? Is the possible main event of WM8 the biggest blown opp in the history of wrestling?
I know they did some house shows in New York, and the events weren't what they hoped, so they ditched the prospect. But, c'mon, that's just New York. They were a WWE crowd all the way and didn't give much of a shit about Flair. I just can't believe they didn't do it. I mean, nothing screams 'biggest ever' like Hogan vs Flair at WRESTLEMANIA.
I still say the Invasion is the biggest blown spot. I mean, Sting, Goldberg, Hogan, Nash, Hall, DDP, Steiner, Bischoff. If they had all come along, holy shit, I can't even imagine what the buyrates would have been.
I also think people are nuts for thinking DDP was stupid to want a feud with The Rock, because they say he wasn't on his level. Sure, to a non-wrestling fan? No. But to a wrestling fan? People loved DDP. They respected DDP. He truly was the People's Champion. I mean, go to youtube and check out DDP's reveal as Sara's stalker. The reaction is one of the Top 5 biggest of all time. It's MONSTER.

I went to Hogan/Flair at the LA sports arena and the place was packed. Everyone of my 12 year old friends expected Hogan/Flair to headline wrestlemania. Hogan/Sid & savage/flair just didn't have the same OMG have to see it quality. Besides the storyline for savage/flair was better after wrestlemania than before.

What was the story line afterward?

"She was mine before she was yours" Flair had photoshopped some images to make it look like Liz was with Flair before she was with Savage. They started it before wrestlemania but after Flair lost the title, he really antagonized Savage about it.

Ooh. I thought that was just the story-line before hand, and then they went on to feud with others afterward.
Pretty funny that Savage lost a retirement match at WM7, then won the title at WM8.

Pretty funny that Savage lost a retirement match at WM7, then won the title at WM8. It works so well though, Savage finds redemption in Miss Elizabeth and his reward is the WWE Title. Savages WrestleMania journey is really a great one and not really duplicated with anybody else over the Manias. I'm still surprised we didn't get Hogan/Flair but I don't think Vince was ever very high on Flair since Flair was a southern guy, his look and his confidence in him was even more lost after the MSG house show. I can't complain too much though, yeah Hogan/Sid was atrocious and had a big ass run in botch. But that Flair/Savage match is excellent and I wouldn't want to give it up to the wrestling gods for a match we would get in 2 years anyway.

Somebody has been thinking about the "WM Main Events" thread on the BoD. That was my email BTW.
Yeah, I think Flair Vs Hogan at WM8 was either about neither willing to do the job or something else. Just do not believe the "they didn't draw houses" claim.

ah, that was yours? Good topic. My most recent email was when I did the whole schpeel about John Cena being behind Montreal, and how he should have led the Invasion, which would set up his heel turn.
Yeah, I don't buy it either, considering the Bash at the Beach PPV drew one of the biggest PPV numbers of all time. That match was great though, I have it around ****-****1/4.
And yeah, Macho's story is fantastic, and would make an awesome documentary/compilation. Piecing clips together. You show him debuting, making Liz his manager, the formation of the Mega-Powers, the break up, him going full heel, losing the strap, dwindling without much aim, then losing his career but regaining his soul. Awesome stuff.

Yeah, I had the idea a year, but figured Scott would want it during the pre-Mania hype and Mania had just happened, so I worked on it a bit here and there throughout the year. I was able to do 1-20 from memory but I had to Wikipedia the rest. Amazing how forgettable post-WCW WWE is.
I think you HAD to do Hogan Vs Flair while you could, so that nixes Flair Vs Savage at Mania. Hold of on the Savage return a few months and I think it would be a fine SummerSlam main event though.
