After a pretty lack-luster year that was 2011, this year has come and delivered some great work.
The Amazing Spider-Man - this is honestly my favorite Spider-Man film. It's just so damn well done, with everyone bringing more to the roll than anyone before. I also much prefer Gwen Stacey to Mary Jane.
Ted - One of the greatest comedies I've ever seen. I may hate his work in TV, but I have no problem showering Seth with praise for this film.
The Avengers - Not the greatest superhero film I've ever seen, but one of the greatest, no doubt.
The Dark Knight Rises - I think it's the worst of the trilogy, and a bit bloated, but Bane is just so damn cool, and Anne Hathaway is so damn attractive that they both push this film into pretty good status.
The Expendables 2 - Duh.
Argo - One hell of a film. I've always dug Affleck, and I'm stoked to see his come back is kicking everyone's ass.
Skyfall - I haven't seen it yet, but the reviews speak for themselves.
I haven't seen the Hitchcock film, but it looks great. I also want to see Looper, which I've heard great things about too. Anyone happen to see it?

Disagree on everything but Avengers and Argo, both of which were insanely fantastic. Argo, in particular, gave me that sense that movies could still amaze and delight theatrically.

I'm glad someone else thought Dark Knight Rises was not the ending we deserved to a trilogy we were so invested in. Yeah there were plenty of "wink, wink" moments for comic fans, but the movie overall felt too riveted together.

And The Hobbit is still coming out. This year was pretty awesome.

The Avengers I thought was excellent, I have it tied with The Dark Knight for best comic book/superhero movie.
The Dark Knight Rises however I thought was very dissapointing and I was being realistic, I wasn't expecting it to be as good as TDK. I dunno, I just expect Batman to be in this movie more than he actually was. Sorry I didnt go see this movie to watch Bruce Wayne recover from a broken back in the stupidest way possible and then watch him try to do a long jump from Super Mario Brothers.
Ted I actually liked more than most people but I'm a Seth McFarlane fan so I expected that.

Ted was funny, but it was one of those films where the trailer kind of showed all the best stuff. Outside of the Flash Gordon stuff, nothing was funnier than the the stuff in the trailer to me.

I really need to see Ted. Never got around to it.
Avengers was perfect, saw it 3 times. DKR bugs me more and more. It isn't horrible, and Bane is awesome, but it just left me a bit cool.
I thought Brave was another solid addition to the Pixar library. Far from their best, but I enjoyed it.

Ted was great, well worth seeing.
Any time you know the ending to a film and it still keeps your interest, the film makers did the job. Id say that definitely held true with Argo.
I guess Im in the minority because I enjoyed the Dark Knight Rises. It was pretty eerie sitting in the theater thinking about the mass shooting while watching the flick though.
21 Jump Street was harmless fun, had some decent laughs too.
Cant wait to see Skyfall perhaps will go tonight.

The problem with DKR was that the whole time this film series is kept in reality, then they go with this MASSIVE grandiose idea of the whole nuclear bomb deal. It was so over-the-top. Not to mention it was just a rehash of the first film. Not every bad-guy HAS to be out to destroy Gotham. I loved Bane though. He looked bad-ass, had a cool accent, and had some awesome lines. Then of course they turn him into a guy who's stuck in the friendzone, and just ends up getting blasted by Catwoman. Boooo.

Now that I think about it, 2012 was a pretty good year.
The Amazing Spider-Man was really good. Avengers was good. Ted had peaks and valley's but a couple of bits had me laughing harder than I have in a long time. The Dark Knight Rises was flawed but really enjoyable. Argo was excellent. Skyfall was excellent. We Need to Talk About Kevinw as excellent. Looper was really good. Safety not Guaranteed was really good. Prometheus... well, again, flawed, but visually speaking, it looked beautiful on the big screen.
Plus, Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty are coming.

This Is 40. Right up there with Argo for me on the year.
I really need to see more of this year's films--it seems that each year, I see fewer and fewer whether in the theater or on DVD.
