(I should preface this by saying that I'm a Steelers fan, but I'm writing this as objectively as I can)
So I live near Erie, Pennsylvania. Erie is a Pittsburgh Steelers town. There are some Browns fans here, and a smattering of fans of other teams. (I'd say it's about 70% Steelers here, about 20-25% Browns, and 5-10% everyone else, including the Bills.)
The Steelers - Browns games are generally the most contentious among local fans, and easily the most anticipated viewing.
So, of course, the game isn't televised here, thanks to the NFL's stupid TV market set-up. We are instead being forced to watch the Bills at Colts on CBS and some NFC nonsense that nobody cares about on FOX. Erie is the the third largest city in the Bills market (behind Toronto and Buffalo) and local fans are forced to endure the torture of season after season of the Bills losing to some team on the road instead of the Steelers or Browns.
When Roger Goodell spoke in eastern New York last summer, he was asked about moving Erie to the Steelers market, and he basically said, "Tough luck." He doesn't give a SHIT about what the fans want, he doesn't really know what we want.
He pushed for an 18-game schedule, which nobody but he and the owners wanted to line their pockets. The NFL talks about player safety, but denied there was a concussion and head injury problem for years until the preponderance of evidence was so heavily weighted against them that they had to capitulate and change some rules.
Goodell then went on to start fining players outside of the collective bargaining agreement, including James Harrison of the Steelers who knocked out two Browns players in the same game, with hits that were perfectly legal.
Then he decides to suspend Saints players without letting them see the evidence against them. (And lets not overlook the destruction of the evidence in the Patriots Spygate case). Goodell has been overruled by judges, arbitrators, and public opinion. He's not as incompetent as Bettman, he's not as evil Stern, and he's not as out of touch as Bud Selig. He's just intoxicated by his own power, and doesn't care about the average fan.
I wish there was a way to get rid of him.
